Abstract
: Sufi Ghazal operatic poetry’s monothematic feature, agape love, has been discussed by philosophers, psychologists, and Sufi poets as the highest and purest form of love which is argued to offer the poets spiritual wellbeing. By relating the mystical and psychological contexts of agape love to the analysis of the Sufi Ghazal operatic poetry collection My Beloved Resides in My Heart (2015) by the first Christian Pakistani British Sufi opera singer Saira Peter (b 1975 -), this research paper investigates the positive influence of agape love on Peter’s spiritual wellbeing. Sufi Ghazal operatic poetry is renowned for its profound expressions of agape love and longing for the Divine, providing a rich source for understanding the complexities of human emotions and their connection to spirituality through incorporating poetry and music. Therefore, Peter’s Sufi Ghazal operatic poetry collection My Beloved Resides in My Heart is considered as a perfect example to illustrate the psychological dynamics and subjective experiences associated with agape love in her collection. This research paper aims to explore the mystical, psychological, and poetic interpretations of agape love, with a specific focus on Peter’s poetic /musical depictions of agape love and her journey towards spiritual wellbeing.
