Abstract
The current study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using infographics enhanced metalinguistic awareness activities to develop oral reading fluency and learning engagement of EFL reading disabled pupils. The study adopted the quasi-experimental design of two groups and pre–post administration of the instruments of the study. Forty-four pupils with reading difficulties from two preparatory schools participated in the study. They were distributed into two equivalent groups: experimental and control group. The experimental group was instructed through infographics enhanced metalinguistic activities whereas the control group were instructed through the regular teaching procedures. Instruments of the study were an oral reading fluency pre posttest and a learning engagement scale. Results of the study indicated the effectiveness of the infographics enhanced metalinguistic activities in developing oral reading fluency and learning engagement of pupils with reading difficulties of preparatory school. It could be concluded that strengthening learners’ understanding of language structures (syntax, morphology, phonology, pragmatic and orthographic) through metalinguistic awareness activities helps in developing more fluent oral reading.
