Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide a critical review of Muḥsin Khan’s translation of Ṣahīḥ al-Bukārī. It is presented in the form of a discussion of the theory of translation and its practical contribution to Ḥadīth1 translation. The extensive examples from Ṣahīḥ al-Bukārī2, their translational problems, and their linguistic features are presented to make the reader of Ḥadīth appreciate its unique language. The present work will also be of interest to researchers in the field of Islamic studies. The exemplified discussion of juristic differences reflected in the jurists’ variant exegeses of the text and the translator’s response to those differences will be of great value to those interested in Ḥadīth jurisprudence. The review intends to detect intricate translation problems in Bukhārī and provides solutions to problems and inaccuracies in the translation of Hadith by focusing on sample texts from Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī. It is not intended to be a translation quality assessment of Bukhārī
